Skill Centers of America was founded
on the principle that the foundation of our country is built on education. SCOA has been instrumental in providing
educational opportunities for adults throughout San Diego County for over 12 years. In 1997, with the opening of
its Preschool, SCOA added children to its list of beneficiaries, creating one of the largest nonprofit educational
institutions in Southern California.
SCOA is available to the community as a source for skill training for the
physically challenged and economically disadvantaged, and the general public. SCOA has strived to help increase
the public's awareness of the desires, needs and strengths of the disabled and disadvantaged. One of SCOA's goals
is to make the business community aware of the advantages of hiring well-trained disabled and disadvantaged workers.
SCOA's staff is available as a referral source to the community for those individuals seeking various types of
services, and will make a referral and recommendation whenever possible. The staff is also available to the
community to serve through public speaking, panel discussions, information dissemination and direct contact
to promote the abilities of the physically challenged and disadvantaged worker.
SCOA's programs are specifically designed to help those who are physically challenged and economically disadvantaged, and are open
to the general public as well. These programs include vocational education through SCOA College, Retail Training
through SCOA's two Thrift Store Outlets, and Preschool for children ages two through five.
